The Shearwater Perdix AI is a technical dive computer with a full colour LED backlit LCD screen, powered by a readily available AA battery that is easily changed by the user, optional wireless air integration, Bluetooth connectivity and a customisable display layout to start.
The Perdix has many features of the Petrel 2 but fitted into a smaller form and has been developed for both recreational, technical open circuit and closed circuit rebreather divers that need a computer that can handle the many combinations and complex configurations of breathing gases. The fact that the Perdix is so flexible and can be customised so heavily means it is always high on the wish list of any technical diver.
In terms of other features, the Perdix AI supports three nitrox gases for recreational divers, multi-gas and trimix for technical open circuit divers as well as closed circuit fixed PPO2. There is also a gauge mode which will display a stop watch and provide logging functions. A 3-axis tilt compensated digital compass takes care of navigation and decompression is calculated using the Buhlmann Gradient Factor algorithm which allows for conservatism adjustment.
The AI in the name relates to Air Integration, supporting up to two transmitters for individual cylinders that you may want to monitor. Rather than using a dedicated Shearwater transmitter the Perdix AI can connect to either Oceanic or Aqua Lung Pelagic models and are securely paired via the transmitter serial number rather than searching for available units each time. Additional information is available on the screen when using a transmitter including cylinder pressure (PSI or Bar), Gas Time Remaining, Surface Air Consumption rate, cylinder pressure logging and alarms for reserve and critical pressures.
